Default 97 blazer auto transmission no reverse or 3rd

I have a 97 Blazer -mid-size (S-10 style). It wont go into reverse, revs up pretty high before shifting into second and wont go into third.

A transmission shop told me there was something broke on the inside and it would have to be pulled to fix it and would cost up to $1200.

Could this be something as simple as the filter and fluid needing to be replaced. If not, is $1200 a reasonable price for this repair.

Thanks for any info

Doubtful that a filter and fluid change will help that. My guess is the reverse sun shell is gng, as well as others. 1200 seems fair for a rebuild. some cost a lot more than that. you might just be able to get a new 4L60e off the internet for cheaper, just depends on what you can find, and how long you are willing to look
