98 blazer knocking sound
 
hey guys i got a 98 blazer and note that it does not make this sound all the time but when im idling it makes a loud violent knocking/clanking noise coming from the engine and when i turn my wheels side to side it gets even worse but when i am driving it makes no noise whatsoever someone told me ower steering pump maybe? it also clanks loud when i start it up and when i shut it off. please help thanks blazer bros

It could very well be the pump seeing as it gets worse when you turn the wheels. I am assuming you are talking about the wheels being noisy when the vehicle is stationary. Turning the wheels puts no strain on your engine besides the fact that the pump is driven by the engine. The noise could be getting worse because the pump is working harder to flow fluid through the rack and pinion. Have you done any visual inspections? Checked your fluid level. Things like that? As far as a knocking sound, it should be more of a loud screeching sound if the bearings were bad, it could be another internal component that is causing that problem though. Have you identified where in the engine compartment the sound is being emitted from?
