Default 98 jimmy tranny is leaking alot!!!!!

have a 98 and went on a road trip got about 50 miles from my destination and started to smell tranny fluid about 10 miles from my destination and when accelerating from a stop it would shift from 1st to 2nd hard and the rest of the gears would be fine, so when i got there the fluid was low so i added 2 wuarts and it drove fine but kept leaking now it is leaking alot and i just want to know if there is any known problems with these trannys that cause this befor i jump into it blind.

You are hardly jumping in blind... You should be able to tell where the leak is. There are no common problems that cause leaks. Check the lines, the pan, and any seal front/rear.

BTW, you can simply bump your post instead of being sarcastic... More flies with honey and all that jazz.

If its leaking as much as you say, it should be pretty obvious and the repair in most cases is pretty simple, except for the input seal, then you have to slide the whole tranny back about 4"-6".

By the way, some of us dont log on between the hours of 10pm- 6-7pm the next day.

well it wasnt obvious where it was leaking from because the entire under cariage was covered in tranny fluid including the back window from air draft so ya couldnt tell where it was from and i ended up replacing the pan gasket so hopefully that was it because i have no idea

I hope that fixes your problem. However the more likely culprit is the rear output seal, they tend to wear over time and actually wear a groove in the driveshaft over time. Both easy to fix, new double lipped seal, and they sell a sleeve that slides over the driveshaft.
