99 4wd Blazer with blown engine
second and third generation 5.7 litter GM blocks have the same bolt pater for the tranny...motor mounts are close but not sure.....the 4.3 and 5.7 are very similar. You dont like the 4.3? or want the power and horrible gas milage of 5.7? My 97 Blazer out runs my 90 chevy full size truck and I have droped GM's new 350 Vortec HO in it with a moded 4L60E in it.......the blazer may not smoke the tires for 2 or 3 gears but it halls but......with better suspension and tires im sure the truck would blow it away and thats with9-10 mpg and 6 towing....... the blazer wins over the truck hands down......coast affective fun with power...best of both worlds
Im not looking for a \/8 im wondering up to what year 4.3's will interchange with the 99.. Im looking at a couple of them in a sal\/age yard here locally, but they are 2002 and 2003 year model.
a 4.3 vortec is or should be the same through out all makes and modles...the diffrences you may find our based on what it is in and what type of emissions managment or acsesory set up it has......the blocks should be the same maybe different style heads but probably not.look at the vin number of the off vechicle and look for 'W' or 'Z' this will tell you wich style of the 4.3 it is, then look at yours...remeber you can use all your hardware and sensors if you choose another 4.3. like I said my 90 full size has a a thrid generation 5.7..came stock with the second gen.......used all my origanal sensors and hardware with the factory manifold and TBI....seamless swap because it was the same style engine but with newer better flowing components. hope this helps
the engines actualy changed quite a bit. anything 98+ should be the same motor or at least very close. anything below that you will have to do some pretty extencive modifications. the vin number shouldnt really matter its supposidly a 10hp diffrence between the two but they both should work. i believe the w is the more powerful of the two but i am not positive.
The block to a 03 should work just fine with a 98 (at least according to my local chevy dealer). The only difference is minor improvements but its nothing that will prevent the install of the block. Just re-use your fittings and such and you should be golden.
Thanks for all the help.. I will be picking up my engine sometime this week.. it is out of a 2003 Blazer and has 11,000 miles on it.. i got it for 700. i would ha\/e just gone with a rebuild but the guy who had the blazer before me dro\/e it with a blown head gasket o\/erheated it and warped the heads, so i figured replacing the engine would be a cheaper and easier route for my situation. But i got it at a steal of a price....the blazer and motor .. so im pretty happy..
