bad input shaft seal and possible trans seal? HELP
 

so today i pulled out my transfer case to replace my input shaft seal since i was overflowing in my transfer case. i am curious because when i broke the seal between the transfer case and the adapter a bunch of trans fluid came gushing out. i am wondering if it is normal for there to be transmission fluid in the adapter or if there is another seal broken before the adapter that is allowing the trans to leak into the adapter. or if there is supposed to be a minimal amount in there.

a quick response is greatly appreciated because i am trying to put it back together tomorrow and would not like to figure out that there was a seal i didnt change and have to take it all apart again.

That is normal. I believe the lubrication system fills that area and it returns back to the pan. Don't worry about it, but just know that when you put it back together you will need to check fluid level again after you drive it once or twice because that will refill and not completely drain back. The lubrication system only operates when in gear; not in Park or Neutral.

thanks. i am going to change my trans fluid once i get my transfer case back on. do you know how much fluid is supposed to go in the transmission and transfer case?
