Can't get the trans dip stick out

We just bought a 98 4x4 Blazer and am doing maintenance on it to make it road worthy. Getting ready to do the front end rebuild but here's a strange question. At least I can't figure this out.

I can't pull the trans dip stick out to check the fluid. I flip the top and it doesn't budge. Is there something I don't know about to get that sucker out? I feel like an idiot but had to ask.

If it doesn't budge & it needs a filter. Then I'd pull the whole tube out while the trans is empty & try taking some canned air stuff you use for keyboards & flip it up side down & try spraying the cold air on just the rubber/plastic piece & see if it'll shrink alittle enough to twist it around & break it loose. You could also try it while its all still in the truck I just don't know if any of the co2 or what ever it is would be ok if any sprayed down the tube. If you do get it out put some vasaline around the seal for the dip stick so it doesn't seize up again.

The tube is bolted to the transmission

possibility transmission was replaced, and like always the dipstick tube never wants to just slide back in,so you end up beating it down with a hammer,or grabbing it with pliers to get it in,thus causing a issue with the dipstick. lol

been there done that. haha. Use a tiny bit of heat,as it'll soften the rubber seal holding it in the tube. once its out, lube the seal up.

Thanks guys. I really do know how to check a dip stick...this thing just baffled me.

I guess I'll be dropping the pan sooner than I thought I'd be. Oh well, it was going to get done anyway.

Thanks again.

just yank on it. you cant pull the dipstick tube out of the trans because, like stated above, there is a bolt through a bracket that goes into the bell housing. a little heat, a little grunt and you should have it out. just dont break off the flip-lock. i had a buddy do that once. not fun to fix. good luck.

Finally changed the filter and the dip stick came out once the pan was dropped. Put some vaseline on the seal and inside of tube. Now it comes out just like it should.

Thanks guys for the help.

yeah they rust in there sometimes. ive seen it happen a few times, more common with oil dipstick tubes, usually on cars where someone has never checked their oil. ive had so bad i actually had to drill out the plastic dipstick tube due to it being so stuck in there
