Changed Fuel Pump...still not working????
97 Chevy Blazer 4 door 2wd. My son's vehicle. He drove it to a friends near the house. When leaving, it would only turn over but not start. His friends neighbor is a "mechanic"...so he tells me... The mechanic said he
checked out a few things & said the fuel pump has gone out. It was towed back home. I checked to see if I could hear the pump coming on when the key was turned...didn't hear anything. I checked the fuses @ the driverside door...all good. I changed the fuse in the glove box...first on left. Blazer still wouldnt start. Poured gas in the carb...cranked right up but died out after gas was used up...about 2 seconds. So I changed the fuel pump, changed the wiring harness with new one that came with pump. The change out went smoothe, the 2 wiring harnesses reconnected firmly. Still will not start. I still cannot hear if the pump is coming on... Any suggestions????? Thanks |
What kind of pump did you use? If it wasn't AC Delco or Delphi it could be bad out of the box!! Check your fuel pressure and do a leakdown test to see if you have the correct pressure. You can find how to do this with a search on here if you don't already know how. Also check every connection you touched while replacing the pump its poosible something isn't connected or grounded properly.

First thing I would check is if your getting power to the pump

Thanks. I will look into these things

And as you check for voltage, rule out all points of failure. Check for power at pump, if there is none, check for power at the fuse. If there is power there, you might be tracking down a bad wire. If not, time to start tracing wires back further. If the fuel pump isn't turning on, there isn't a whole lot of options here, and you have that on your side.
A leakdown test is useful, but only if the pump actually comes on. If not, then focus on the power first. If you are short on cash, I wouldn't even worry about the leakdown test if you get the pump on and the truck runs. But.....the numbers are always kinda nice to have. :D |
Thanks. Plan to check voltage, wiring & connections tomorrow after work.
