Check Engine Slipping Transmission
Hopefully one of you guys can help me out with a tip on how to diagnose my problem. I have a '99 Blazer LS ZR2 4x4 with 4.3L and Auto Trans and 110K miles. I have a check engine dummy light with code for slipping transmission. I have3 symptoms: First is loss of power/slipping @ 55-60 mph (4th gear?). Second is a hard/delayed shift immediately onpulling away from stop light (1st gear?). Third is low transmission fluid only 3 weeks/400 milesafter fluid change with no apparent external leaks.
A friend of mine had similar issues with a '96 Blazer and he says it turned out to be the seal between the tranny and trnsfer case. Fluid was leaving the transmission and building up in transfer case causing transmission to slip. The mechanic I had diagnose the dummy light immediately recommended arebuild(I think this was give up answer and $$$ driven). How can I be sure? Thanks for any help/advice! |
RE: Check Engine Slipping Transmission
Have autozone check the code. $10 says it's P1870. It's a normal code for our trucks, and has to do with the valve body in the tranny. Apparently there's a kit out there to fix it that only costs like $100 to install, but i haven't dealt with it, so i can't say whether or not it works. I do know that a lot of people have the tranny rebuilt because of this code.

RE: Check Engine Slipping Transmission
Thanks Jigg. I will check that out. Is the code still in system if the previous guy cleared the idiot light?
