Code PO463, 54lbs Fuel Pressure, no start.
 

First off, Swartlkk, I'm sorry. I'm a hot head and got frustrated at my last post.

Now. 2000 blazer ZR2. always had a problem spitting and sputtering on start up on wet days. (ie rain or humid). Was told many things and check all these sensors.

Well, I begrudgingly took some advice and went and got some advanced diagnostic equipment. Namely a fuel pressure gauge and an equus 3160.

First the gauge. When i first got it, I tested right away and the pressure was in normal limits and the truck ran fine. BTW it was dry outside.

Well, it has rained here over night and just as expected it won't start. KOEO fuel pressure reads 54lbs. It's low. Now, the reader does not read any codes set. (funny, no start but, no codes!) Anyway, looked at history, and code PO463 was set in the past. Which explains my erratic fuel gauge.

So, I'm guessing the fuel pump has had it but, is the sensor part of the fuel pump or is this a different issue?

It Lives! I went back to the basics. Is there fuel? Spark? Air? Well, followed Swartkk's tech tips for no start. Went and got a spark tester. Nothing at the plugs but, nice spark at the coil. Took off the cap and found that the terminals were all crudded up. I've been trying to track this problem for awhile now and I just replaced the cap and rotor no more than 10k ago. But, I replaced it with a Wells brand. This time I used Delphi. Noticeable difference in the two. Looks like the termals in the wells are Aluminum. Where the ones in the Delphi looked like steel.

But, I replaced them and she sputtered to life (think it was flooded from trying to start it before)

Also, I talked to the NAPA guy and he said that moisture is a common problem in these distributers and GM has since redesigned it. You can get a replacement but, it's like $300. I'm going to look into it but, don't have the coin for that right now. Just happy it runs!

So, the moral of the story? You may have just replaced it but, check it anyway. As I just discovered, cheap parts don't last!

fuel pumps
caps
autolite
bosch plugs
ball joints. (moogs good though)
