Dexcool vs. All Makes - not your usual question
Getting the LIM gasket done this week, and I asked my mechanic about switching to Prestone All Makes (yellow) when he refills the cooling system.
I know the downside of Dexcool + any air that gets in the system. However, he said his understanding is that one plus of Dexcool is that if something fails and coolant gets into the oil/engine, that Dexcool won't immediately toast the bearings (as compared to green coolant). Is this true? If so, does anyone know if the same is true of All Makes (yellow) coolant? |
Any type of coolant in the oil will ruin the bearings. It's not the type, but the quantity and length of time it's in the oil.

Ok, cool. So then it makes the most sense to go with yellow All Makes to avoid the air + coolant issue that Dexcool has (hopefully air will never get in there again anyways though).
