Does not want to start after sitting for awhile
Just purchased 2000 Blazer so not much history. The engine runs OK but will not start first thing in the morning. Sometimes after a few minutes or so it will fire after walking away for a bit. After it starts it will do so for the rest of the day no problem. Sometimes the engine seems to shutter badly just after a start however. Any idea of what to look for. Thanks

Will it start by giving it some throttle? If so and maybe even if it doesn't it could be a dirty IAC and throttle body.
|
Giving it a bit of throttle does not seem to help. I forgot to mention in previous posts that the vehicle has been sitting up for several months without being driven
|
Several months shouldn't be a problem. If you can I'd take it to one of the auto parts stores that offer free diagnostics (Auto Zone and Advance Auto do it here). See if there are any codes tripped. I do this before replacing any parts.

Personally if your getting fuel I would suspect wires plugs cap and rotor, had this problem in my 2002 and after replacing these items starts perfectly, use an ac delco cap and rotor doesn't like other brands ngk wires are good as are their plugs, but for me it was all ac delco parts

check fuel pressure and when u do, that pressure is suppose to hold that pressure. so keep gauge on there and keep checking it. if pressure doesn't hold at a steady amount , its your fuel pump. I think pressure on that is 55-63 psi.

I can get the engine to start by cycling the pump on and off. Placing the ignition in the on position of turning it off and on 3-4 times in a row. Then the engine starts and runs. It sputters and backfires when I initially start to pull away, not in idle

Listen to this guy here. Duralast Gold Dizzys are good too. I have one on mine. $60 bucks for it seems a lot but they can't corrode and my local AutoZone carries a lifetime warranty for it for failure. Get AC Delco Double Platinum spark plugs. They are the best plugs for these engines. Along with a new coil. Wires should be fine to resuse if you check them over and make sure they're good but I would replace them anyways.

Does cycling the pump seem to help the crank time or no? Can you smell fuel at all? The backfire and sputtering seems like it's actually rich. Got any codes? |
Only codes are 071 and 074. No smell of gas and the recycling starts the engine promptly

Check for any vacuum leaks. Check to see if your MAF is dirty. |
