engine bad
the dealership says number four and six cylnder have no compression after over heating and recommend a five thousand dollar chevy engine swap. i have a 2000 blazer 2door 4 wheel drive. what to do?

I would drop a used engine in it....unless it is absolutely mint ...5000 is alot of cash ....you could also shop around as I would almost guarantee a better deal from someone rather than the stealership.

could probably buy a great running donar S10 or Blazer for half that... I mean I paid less than 2k for my 04 4dr 4x4...

Run from that dealer! You can easily find a used 4.3 cheap. Look on Car-part.com and see if you can find one locally. I wish you were close to me in Texas. Im about to pull the perfect running 4.3 out of my 2002 to do a v8 swap.

I too would run from any dealership/shop that suggests that you spend $5K on an engine replacement for a 17 year old vehicle. In my area these things are not worth that kind of money even with 'low' (<125K) miles and while in good overall condition. The used Blazer market in your area might be different tho.
Also keep in mind that a new engine in an old vehicle = you still have an old vehicle. And another thing is that it's not uncommon to replace or rebuild an eng. only to have the trans go bad not too many miles afterwards (or the other way around). |
