Engine Code P0404
I'm on my 3rd EGR valve and i'm getting a P0404 and it says erg valve curcuit. and the guys said either bad wire or computer is bad and causing it to think ERG is bad. Has anyone had this issue before? he said its opening the erg when it doesnt need to or vise vursa..
I'm going to assume since this is an OBD2 code that this is a '96-'02 engine (the mid-'02+ 4.3L don't have a conventional EGR valve as we know them).
If you have carbon buildup that has started to flake off in the EGR supply tube, you could be getting this code due to carbon holding the valve open. I would recommend that you remove and clean the EGR valve. Purchase the revised gasket with an internal screen. Then get a brass pipe cleaner and clean out the lower hole where the EGR valve mounts on the lower intake manifold. Before reinstalling the EGR valve, attempt to start the engine. This will clear any loosened debris from the supply line. Be aware that the engine may race if it does catch due to the large vacuum leak from the missing EGR valve.

The EGR gases are not in the intake for a very long time. There are two short tubes in the lower intake. One leads to the intake plenum, the other leads to the EGR supply tube. If you were going to remove/replace something, I would remove the EGR supply tube first to see if you can't knock any carbon out of it. Crappy part about the EGR supply tube is I think you have to remove the driver's side accessory drive bracket to get to it at the intake and I never have tried to determine where it connects in with the exhaust...
