engine/transmision removal

I need to know is it easier to remove the engine with the transmission still attached or is it better to disconnect it in the truck. I have a 1986 S-10 4x4 Blazer with an automatic trans.:icon_bike:

I would pull the engine out separately and then the tranny and case out the bottom together if needed.

there appears to be no room between the engine and firewall how hard is it to get to the bellhousing bolts to seperate the two pieces

You gotta lower the tranny slightly and use very long extensions to get to the back of the engine.

do you get to the bolts from the front of the engine or from way behind the trans.

You literally need like 3ft of extension! Youll want to remove the rear crossmember, then use a jack to support the trans. when i did it last we jacked the engine up a tiny bit too in the front, gave a better angle, just be carfull not to smash up all your goodies on the top back of your engine.

use the extensions and litterally, with the tranns at an angle remove the bolts by slidding the extension along the top of the trans to get at them.

and yes, your getting at the trans from the back.

P.S. Enjoy your knucks while you still have them. Hehe, hope it helps!

I just pulled my engine a couple of weeks ago out of a 97. I had good luck with lifting the body and using an 18 and 24 inch extension to get the top two bolts out.

I've finally gotten the engine back in and Im glad the nightmare is almost over.
