Which engines are compatible with mine?
I have a '97 Blazer LT 4x4 with the 4.3L with 240,000 miles. I discovered today that the intake is leaking coolant down the engine block. They gave me a quote of about $500 to replace the intake gasket parts and labor. I was thinking it'd be a little more practical to just drop a younger 4.3 in seeing this one has 240K miles already. I was wondering

I have a 99 S10 Blazer that spun a rod bearing. I had a 4.3 out of 2006 Silverado installed.
The ONLY difference was the knock sensor BOSS (hole). The 2006 knock sensor boss must be tapped to accept the 1999 knock sensor threads.
Absolutely no other issues and or problems.

Wow a 2006 in a 99 that's the first time I ever heard of that compatibility as many times as this subject has been discussed. You didn't have to change the pcm?All the other info I have read says only up to 2000 would work with some minor mods and pcm change.

I simply had my intake and fuel injection setup installed on the 2006 long block. No biggie.
Like I stated before, only the knock sensor boss needed to be tapped out. Again, no big deal.

Heck, its only about $35 for a intake gasket kit.(without valve cover gaskets) id much rather spend a few hours changing a gasket than the whole weekend (or more) changing a entire engine....and on that note, i changed a engine on a '96 and shortly afterwards needed a intake gasket due to a coolant leak-go figure!

I used a 2006 long block (heads+short block) only. No need to swap PCMs whatsoever.
