Front Driveshaft Removal - 95 NP233 - Its STUCK!
OK Guys, been digging around the net for hours and cant seem to find a similar soloution.... so here i am. -
While trying to rebuild my TCase motor today (NP233), I couldnt get my front drive shaft out. I have replaced tonz of these shift motors, on older, same and newer model years, but cant recall a propshaft that is quite like this (tho the memory is shot). Were working on a 95 blazer by the way. Every one i have encontered, has a standard style yoke on each end with u-joints.... removal is a no brainer... saddle straps, drive shaft, pinion flange.. ect.. gravy. OOOOORR ... i have seen it on newer models, with a U-joint on the front, and a CV at the T-case, with a flat flange that bolts together... unbolt the flange, reveals the yoke retaining nut... On mine... i have a Ujoint to the front, a CV at the transfer case... and no visible means of connection to the t-case. The only thing i can think of is a retaining clip on the end of the shaft hanging up in the T-case... then i saw this pic. http://i8.ebayimg.com/01/i/001/17/8f/2c65_1.JPG Which is pretty much my drive shaft... and as i see in the pic.. no typical halfshaft splined end with a retaining clip on it. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...fani/tcase.gif Here, i can demonstrate what i tried.... obviously with the ujoint disconnected and hanging from the front end.... I Pryed the CV cap off.... hoping to remove it and expose a center nut... I air hammered the area around the blue line (solid cast) trying to drive the shaft out..., i even resorted to heating it. Mitchell, Identifix and Alldata all three call for like 1.2 labor to do the shift motor, so nothing different (labor wise) from the ones i have done before... and mitchells procedure is essientally : Remove driveshaft, Remove Motor, install in reverse... Is this thing just seized... or do i need to get in 4WD, lock the rear shaft and spin the front off? (threaded?) Thanks for any tidbits you can offer... I do this for a living and am up against a wall. |
