frozen radiator need some help
well i have my blazer in the garage for the winter, i always used 50/50 so i start it every 2 weeks to make sure everything is in working order. this week i had the hood popped open and my coolent was slushy but after 5 minutes i was getting warm heat just not hot. should i drain my radiator and use straight antifreeze?

No you dont want to use straight antifreeze maybe about 60/40 ratio and get an antifreeze tester to find out what the freezing point is after you fill it.I know they are less that $10 and pretty self explanitory to use.

yeah i bought one of those yesturday the reason im asking is i just bought another jug of 50/50 but im wondering why its still kinda slushy like its got water in the radiator i dont have heat in the garage but its not super cold out its suppose to warm up this weekend maybe ill just change it before it gets cold again.

It it is freezing I would say that you have more water in your system than you think. I would drain the system and add new 60/40 ratio antifreeze as suggested above. Stop buying premixed antifreeze as you are being charged for water. Mix it yourself and test it before you put it in the rad.

i already changed it out to 60/40 now im having heat issues

if you got slush you never had much antifreeze
Never used pre mixed doesnt really allow you to increase strength I was told that straight antifreeze will turn to gel BTW Park on as steep uphill incline as you can find drain rad refill slowly with engine running ,heater on dont rush to cap the rad ,keep an eye on temperature gauge top off rad when normal operating temp is reached and cap Make sure you change fluid out in catch tank its also watered down |
