RE: Gas Smell From Oil

There are very few ways that gas can get into the oil. The first would be a complete wash down of the cylinders and that is not likely unless you have other problems like rough idle and stumbling...this would indicate the Fuel Pressure Regulator seals are leaking or the O-rings in the spider for the injectors are leaking excess fuel into the cylinders...or your injectors are sticking open but that would mean a rough running condition to even not starting...

Did anyone use Seafoam in the oil and forget to change the oil within one tankful of treating the oil???

Is your oil level higher than normal? Have you performed a fuel pressure leak down test? How is the truck running?

Even if not, I'd recommend you change the oil NOW. Fuel in the oil will be bad if left unchecked. If you cannot get things opened up to check on key areas, then you may have to resort to changing your oil on a weekly schedule depending on the leak.

sorry for taking so long to respond.. been real busy.. but i did notice that the truck recentlyhas a bit ofan intermitenthigher(somewhat rougher) vibrating idle somtimes when stopped in traffic.. almost like the alternator or something is kicking in.. nothing major but you do notice it.. and it only started within a week or 2..

not sure what seafoam is but we just bought the truck at a used car dealership a little over a month ago..

the oil was down a little.. and i topped it up which caused me to find the whole problem.. we bought a powertrain warranty and a seals and gaskets warranty with the vehicle.. and we have to have the oil changed every 5000km and we're about half way there.. the oil changes have to be done by a garage.. so what would you suggest i do..??

also noticed that i'm getting really bad gas mileage.. gas here now is a $1 a litre and for $20 i'm getting about 80km.. i was getting about 100km for $20 when gas was about .94 a litre.. not sure what i should get for $20 but this seams really wrong.. also there are no check engine lights or anything on... and thx to all for the help

If the oil change has to be done by them, then either, don't tell them you changed the oil, or have them check it out... If you have the seals & gaskets thing, then they should cover any seals & gasket work... At least that's how it sounds to me, lol

RE: Gas Smell From Oil

If you are getting gas in the oil and you have a warranty take it back to where you bought it and tell them this truck is leaking gas into the oil. In this year of truck if gas is getting into the oil it means that the poppet injectors are leaking fuel when the engine is not running. If you don't get this fixed soon you could have a very catostrophic bearing failure with a possibility of a big fire I have seen these trucks in the local salvage yards and most have engine bays scorched by fire....gas in the oil destroys the lubrication properties of any oil going through the oiling system, creating higher temperatures and oil break down and bearing failure in the crankshaft or rod bearings....
