Help with removing transmission driver side bellhousing bolt
Ok transmission blew on my 97 blazer(2 wheel drive), I'm trying to unbolt the bell housing, problem is the the middle bolt on the driver side, I can just barely get a wrench on it but There's no room to turn it, tried using ratchet with extensions and a UV joint but I just cant get it on it.
I already have the cross member out and I have the transmission angled as much as I can. Any ideas on how to get it out? |
Try raising the trans back up and see if you can get it from the topside. You should be able to get it from underneith though with the trans tilted all the way down. You might have to loosen the motor mount bolts to get it to go down more.

I just pulled the trans outta my 99 s10 4x2 last weekend. And by my book on the s10 your suppose to unbolt the cab & raise it slightly to reach the bolts. Thou I was able to get my top two by pounding back the pinch weld in then firewall/trans tunnel. I don't know if it'll work but its worth try.

Hey
Seems like raising the cab is my best bet, what would be the procedure for it? Thanks |

i have a very skinny 1/4 inch ratchet breaker bar thing along with a 15mm socket it works everytime. ive done about 10 of these transmissions.
one time that didnt work due to the motor mounts being so bad the engine and trans actually slid back like a 1/4 inch making it impossible to get that in there, i eventually got it with a box end due to it being pretty loose |
Got it out yeah!
Thanks For the Help Guys
I finally got it out, Took me pulling down on the transmission with one hand and turning it little by little using a box wrench which I modified with a cut out on the handle so it would'nt hit the rib on the casting(meaning I could turn it a 16th of a turn instead of 0) Now all I have to do is pull the transmission out and then I get to try and reinstall the little bugger...yeah :icon_rolleyes: |
Congrads I think we all have had our battles with the occasional stubborn bolt or two.I know I have had my share.
Now hopefully the install is easier mine was biatch. |
I took a prybar up there and bent the floor enough to get in with wrenches
