How to tell if the poppets have been replaced

I did a search for this and cant find the info Im looking for. I bought a 02 LS last year and have heard all this about replacing the poppet spider with injectors. How can you tell if it has been done? Is there something to look for externally that can tell me this has been done other than removing the intake? Does fuel mileage improve? Obviously running improves.

Unless there is an aftermarket intake manifold your truck odds are good you still have the factory fuel injection system. Because of how the intakes are built the only to tell is if you have a record showing that the poppet fuel injectors were replaced or by taking the lower intake manifold off. Aftermarket injectors can improve fuel economy if you go for an engine computer retune. It may be more of a hassle to replace the factory fuel system unless you have fuel injector failure or you are going for a performance tune, but there's much more you can do to an engine for that reason. I know most people go for performance fuel injectors when they throw on turbocharger or supercharger, but that about all I know in that area. Your factory fuel system setup is probably good enough and "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Being a 2002, you may already have the newer MFI setup. To tell for sure, you could remove the throttle body & use a small mechanics mirror to look at the injectors where they go into the lower intake manifold.

what will I see when I look in there? Can you see the in jectors or a harness?

Both really. If you see wires inside the plenum you have the updated MFI setup. If you don't and only see the nylon tubes leading down to the lower intake manifold, then you have the older SCFI setup.

Is there a thread on here that tells me how to replace this and what gaskets and such iam going to need besides the spider?

Does anyone know if the spider kit that piscespokerbrat has for sale is a delphi kit? I cant seem to get hold of him to ask him my self. Says to contact him using email but when I put in an email for him I get a mailer demon.
