Jasper Trans. Opinions? Reviews?

Long story short, transmission's toast. I'm looking for the good, the bad and the ugly about Jasper transmissions. If anyone has one, or heard of experiences with them, please spread the word. Also, is there a re-man company better than Jasper? From what I've read, their warranty is great, but a lot of people seem to need it.

Thanks for your input,
Steve

I have a Jasper trans in the 01 ZR2 I bought a couple of months ago. It was put in 25k ago by the previous owner. Seems to work pretty well so far.

I am going to get my PCM reprogrammed and have the shift firmed up a little though.

IMO having yours rebuilt is better than buying one. Around here there are ads on Craigslist for transmission rebuilding. Guys that do it for a job, but just need some side money. I would go that route if I had to. It's cheaper(about $400-$600), you know you have YOUR transmission when you get it back, but it will take longer than one that was pulled off a shelf.

The good is turn around time, warranty and you are getting a tranny built to OEM specs.

The bad is you are getting a tranny built to OEM specs.

The ugly is usually one looking at themselves in the mirror.

Having a tranny rebuilt allows you to install better/stronger parts rather than using the same parts that you just replaced. Best thing to do is find a local TRANSMISSION shop that is an expert on 4L60E's and talk to them. They will know the weak areas and how to beef them up.

How quickly do you need the vehicle back? I had a 4x4 transmission rebuilt at the shop for $1600 with a 2 year warranty. If I pulled and installed the trans myself they would do everything for $800. I'm not sure how expensive jaspers are but I'm guessing the transmissions are at least $1000. It might be cheaper and better to have yours rebuilt with 'the beast' sunshell rather than risk an oem/ jasper sunshell. Plus must be a few transmission shops in the detroit area looking for work!

Installed new Jasper transmission in 2006 (2002 Blazer) at 107,000 miles and currently are at 193,000 with perfect performance. Did a pan drop/filter change at 10,000 and a total bucket flush at 70,000 miles on Jasper. Part was $1900 and I would buy Jasper again.

They are remanufactured not rebuilt like locally and they are enhanced over OEM specs. This is covered on their web site.

Well, I ended up having mine rebuilt at a local shop. Total was $1750 which is less than a Jasper would have cost just for the trans. Just picked it up and its runnin fine...they charged me $80 just for fluid. :icon_rant:Needless to say, I wont be back there. I can't stand someone else workin on my truck. That's why I'm here...I'd rather bust my azz and learn it myself than have to trust a "professional" rip off man.

However, when I asked the owner, he said he upgraded weak parts (such as the sunshell) but when I left I forgot to get a list of what hard parts he replaced. I know all soft parts were. It came with a 1 year warranty which I had to heckle him for. Originally I was stuck with a 6 month or 12k mile warranty, but I questioned why it was so short if his mechanics were so good. On a total rebuild, I'd think it shouldn't fail within a year anyway...if they did their job right.

But thanks for the opinions. As always, they were helpful and appreciated.
