key locked in in ignition after heater core fix!

My neighbor has a 95 4x4 blazer and the heater core went out, we got that replaced without an issue. He went to fire it up and the key is stuck in the ignition. I checked under the column to make sure the linkage for the shifter didnt come loose, its ok. Now in out of ideas. I think its to big of a coincidence that the cylinder went out at the same time. Its a column shifter. Any ideas?

did you fix it yourselves or did you take it to a shop?
did you try wiggling the column shifter to see if its just because it has some slop in it?

We fixed the heater core ourselves and tried wiggling the wheel and the shifter. Everything went great until now lol

I'll bet its a power issue g etting to the electronic ignition switch portion that releases the key

Just a quick update, we started rechecking all of the electrical connections and wires, so far so good, any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I use to have to jumpstart the bravada if it sat to long and the battery drained. Id have to jump it then it'd be fine.

Hey did you get a roof basket? I seen a Jimmy running around by walmart last week or so that looked like your with a rack & black rims. BTW the new rims look sick!

I second what these guys said. Check the voltage in the battery or just try to start the car. On these cars, when the battery dies with the key in the ignition, the key gets locked in.

This is EXACTLY what I'm dealing with right now!! I replaced the heater core, put it all back together and it started. Then put a few more screws in and went to start it and key won't turn, wheel locked, shifter locked... I don't know what the heck it is! Tried jiggling the wheel, jiggling the shifter, tapping on the key with a wrench while in the ignition... I'm at a loss.
