Location of transfer case vacuum switch

Does anyone have a picture of the location of the vacuum switch, that is on top of the transfer case. I have the new switch, but cant seem to be able to locate it. Is it out of view, or am I just an idiot. A view of a transfer case out of the truck with that switch on t would be great

Thanks for any help

Rick

Hi, I just had mine off. lol.

It's on the driver side on top of the transfer case facing up with a three line connector plugged in on top of it.

If you reach up around the front driveshaft you can see/feel it. Use a flashlight.

So its right above the front driveshaft? I'll take a look.

That's were it is, now before you pull anything off save yourself the trouble and clean the area around up there cause you'd be amazed how much dirt collects up there. And beleve me you don't want dirt in your transfer case. also make sure if the old one has an o-ring that you get or have one for the new one. I changed my just a bit ago and the factory came with one but the new one didn't so I dug around for one.

Ok. i took a quick look and the only connector that is directly above the front driveshaft is a 2 prong electrical connector. I may not have been too descriptive on what I have for a vehicle: its a 99 Jimmy with push button 4wd. It also has the "auto" 4wd feature.

Follow the front shaft into the transfer case and run your hand up and back about half a foot. It's right there, with three hard lines running into the top of it with a triangle connector.

I followed the vacuum line running from the cattuator, under the battery, and this is where it runs to. I thought that line ran to the vacuum switch on the top of the xfer case( that line is the one in the armored plastic in the lower part of the picture. Can someone tell me what that is, and why would the vacuum for the xfer case run to it. BTW, I still cant find that darn thing.

Thanks,
Rick

You have the NV236 transfer case. As a number of other threads detail, the NV236 does not have a mechanical vacuum switch on the transfer case. Rather, it has an electronic switch on the firewall as you have found. It all comes down to knowing what you have... Plenty of information is available. :icon_wink:
