Loud engine or fan noise?

When I start driving my engine sounds very loud, I can tell a loss of horsepower in the pedal. What causes this and how can i fix it? 2001 4.3l V6 68,000mi. It eventually goes away once i get up to speed.

If it's anything like my 1995 blazer, it's the fan clutch that needs to warm up,I think. It's like a loud wining nois? That follows the RPM's?

That is the way it's suppose to be :)

Its just gotten worse recently, and I just checked it while it was cold and the fan blade moved, so guess I'll just deal with it. Thanks

i know it doesnt help but mine does it to....sounds like i am ready for launch and then it goes away when warm.

Colder outside maybe? Takes longer time to warm up?

The fan should move when cold. If you give it a good spin it should spin half/one round or something like that before it comes to a stop.
