Low mpg brainstorm
I have a 2000 4x4 2dr blazer with the 4.3 vortec, it runs smooth, but it seems a little sluggish. I have nothing to compare it too because i purchased it about 2000 miles ago at 133k miles.
I get an average of 14.5 mpg, i accelerate really softly, around 1800-2000 rpm, and get passed by everyone else in traffic. If i ride the gas a little more, i can only just keep up with traffic and my mileage doesn't go up or down much.
The brakes are not dragging, i changed the oil with a good synthetic, ran some techron, changed the plugs, the color was good. changed the air filter. Some 1500 miles later i'm still getting 14.5, i have experieced better mileage running mid grade gassoline but never really continued.
Are they any other things that could be wrong? and ideas, i am willing to try anything at this point.

right there with ya !!!!
i have never been happy with the 15-16 mpg i get out of my 95 blazer 4x4
everything you have done is a step in the right dirrection, maybe map sensor or egr valve?
otherwise just get use to it, unfortunately

check ur tires even if theyre a lil low that will negativly affect ur mpg's also consider switching to an H/T tire if you spend most of ur time on paved roads. i dont really know much about the techron, but try running some sea foam through i know many ppl on this site have done it and swear by it, also if running a higher grade fuel gets you better mpg's id say keep doing it and try to run the highest grade availible.
What size and type of tires do you have? Keep'em aired up. I get 16-17 hwy with my mud terrains and 17-18 hwy with my all terrains. Also, make sure the engine is running about 200 degrees... if the thermostat is letting it run cooler, that will affect mpg.
Right now i am only running 235-75R-15 Im kinda getting worried about going to a bigger tire, i would like to run a 31x10.5 but if i am already sluggish now i am worried that i will seriously get left behind in traffic.
I seem to get 15.5 highway or city, its just always 15. I was just a little bummed becasue my dads 89 blazer 4x4 door with the 4x4 got 18 city 22ish highway, and the only difference is the TBI engine and a free flowing exhaust.
