Default oil leak :(

ok my dad informed me today that he has noticed the oil has been slowly going down. what would be the best course of action. i want this truck to last. it has 190,000 on it now i want to get 250,000 if possible. i just know that if he blows the motor in it the car i drive goes back to him. we originally bought the blazer for me to drive. but he some how got it and now drives it for the time being but come the end of september it comes back to me. what should i start investigateing first?

After the truck has been sitting for awhile, look underneath it to see if there is oil on the ground. If so, start from there and look upward on the motor until you find the source of the leak. Look around the valve covers, the oil pressure sending unit (top of the motor at the back near the distributor), around the lower intake manifold gasket, the oil filter, oil pan. These are the usual suspects. Also look at the engine coolant to see if there is oil in it (not highly likely).
