no 3rd or overdrive

2nd gen 1998 blazed has 1 2 and reverse. Best guesses please

Today I changed the oil filter and shift solenoid, no luck. Read online that its the friction plates. If I attempted to do a partial rebuild, is this kit enough?

Thanks for all the help, getting a used tranny from a neighbor who is junking the truck and says its fine
