Conclusion
I need time to process all of these events. One choice is to drive the vehicle as is until something more serious brings it back to the garage. The other choice is an overhaul which would require removing the engine. I am not ready to do this. There is the possibility of a crack in the block because of the nearness of these two cylinders. I really appreciate the expert advice in analyzing the problems. Perhaps these conversations will be of help to others. So, I think we should bring this thread to a close. Thanks to all!!! Joe

One last thing... cylnders 3 and 4 are not near each other - they are on opposite sides of the block - so crack causing the problem is very unlikely. Only one way to know the reason behind the miss and I have already outlined that. I think you are the type that will end up doing the final diagnosis after you let things settle in your mind for a bit. Honestly, if I was you...... with the amount of work you have put in I would go ahead and put it in service and see how it does. SES light will be on but a piece of black electrical tape will take care of that. If it's to be a gift to a family member down on their luck, then you have definitely done your duty. A lot of people driving around with problems way worse than that. I say as long as it is reliable, big deal about a miss at idle and SES light. Beats the heck out of walking. You know what the problem is, and although its not likely to get better - the problem is not likely to make them walk, nor is it likely to ruin the new cat (unless they only idle). If the vehicle turns out to be very good otherwise, maybe you can consider a Goodwrench crate longblock at a later date. 3 year/100,000 mile warranty at $2059.00 from Jegs with no core and free shipping.
