Default V8 in s10 blazer

I got a 91 s10 blazer 4x4 and was wonderin how easy it would be to put a 305 in it. Ive seen people do it to an s10 truck, but seems like my 95 s10 has more room under the hood than my s10 blazer. Just wonderin if its as easy as putting a v8 in a s10 pickup. thanks

The 'ease' of putting a v8 into your truck depends on what you are starting with (engine/trans). And yes, the process is very much the same as putting one into an s10 pickup of similar drivetrain configuration (4wd in your case).

Thanks, right now it has the 4.3L with an auto trans. I want to put a 305 and a 4 or 5 speed in it.

The difficulty will be in the trans swap. Your trans will bolt up to the v8. You will need to find the appropriate 4 or 5 speed trans to fit in there and you still may have to find the appropriate driveshafts to work with it if the lengths are different.

I explored the ideaof installing a balanced 388 CI stroker V8 in my '91 Blazer. I would definately retain the original automatic transmisson. Those are very good transmissions and the problems associated withinstalling a 4-speed manual transmission makes that optionnot worth the effort.

Unless you are going into drag racing, a Chevrolet 4.3L V6 can be made into astrong running engine. The 4.3L engineuses 350 CI Chevrolet pistons, has thethe same stroke and forged pistonsarerelatively cheap and avaliable. You couldalso purchase a4.3L V6 Chevrolet crateengine for $2200, use you present underhood accessorieswhich makesit abolt in job. You can install V6 4.3L Chevy headers and dual exhaust and that would make a good running combination and willretain the original appearance to surprisethe competition. My '91 Blazer with a 4.3L V6and automatic transmissioncausesmany people into thinking it has a V8.

Remember... one of the the fastest production vehicles made by GM was a '91 V6 Syclone Turbo S-10 pick-up which was capable of11 second ETright off the show room floor. It could get the Corvettes, with ease. That would be very embarasing to a Corvette owner.

Keep the TBI...that device is the best type of inductionthat GM has introduced. Throttle respone is excellent with a TBI and much better than a carburetor.

O yea i also remembered that i have a straight 6 that was in my 83 gmc, was rebuilt a couple years ago. Do you think i should put it in my blazer or rebuilt/tune up the v6 thats in it, or put a small v8 in it? Thanks

I would put a 350 V8 in the Blazer before I would put a straight 6 in it. I know nothing about a straight 6 Chevy engine and that is for a good reason.

To get the most bang for your buck, a brand new Chevy 4.3L crate engine from GM is the way to go. Avoid any of therebuilt 4.3L engines from independent engine rebuilders. You can get a rebuilt 4.3L engine for about $900 to $1000 but it is a better ideato putanother $1200 with it and order and purchaseanew Chevy V6 crate engine from a Chevrolet dealership.

You may even find a Chevrolet dealership that will charge $3000 to furnish and install a new crate V6 engine. Then you would have a warranty.
