Quick question about Top Dead Center (TDC)...
I found the EDI timing instructions through a search and I am just curious if piston #1 is always in the TDC position when the alignment notches on the Crankshaft Balancer are aligned with the markers on the Engine Front cover?
I guess, this is also asking, is one rotation of the Crankshaft Balancer equal to all the pistons firing once? Also, if the Crankshaft Balancer notches align up with the Engine Front Cover, but the distributor is out of place (according to the diagram), will the car be out of time? If so, how is that fixed? The piston will be near, not directly on, TDC #1 when both timing marks are aligned. What you have to determine is that it is on TDC on the compression stroke (ie both valves closed.
Being a 4-stroke engine, it takes 2 rotations of the crankshaft to fire all of the cylinders. You can have the #1 piston at TDC on compression or exhaust strokes. |
