Default Spark Plug Question

I wanted to make sure that the way the spark plugs are layed out on the Distributor cap is the same way they go on the engine. Is that correct? I have been having misfires after putting NGK's in and am trying to rule out things. Does anyone else have any troubles with NGK's?

I went to AC Delco and they gave me NGK Platinum plugs, so I'm guessing they are pretty close to stock.
