We got the trans replaced with a used one, runs good but the gear selector needle is acting like it gets stuck. it goes from P-R-N but from N-Od it doesnt move but it is IN Od. They messed with the linkage for 15-20min but couldn't get it to move right.

Anyone got any ideas?

No not electonic. Yes in the dash

It's a 96 that has the needle that moves through the gears..

You might have to look at the column shifter to see if there is something that is blocking the needle from moving, maybe a wire or some other item has dislodged itself and is keeping the needle from moving. Some older transmissions had to be adjusted internally for the indicator to work if yours is this type then you will have to check cable adjustments (might have to pull tranny pan to get to adjusting mechanism). Also check the TV cable on the TB to see if it is properly adjusted (this could be out in left field and not even related but stranger things have been known to happen with mechanics) if not this might be an indication that it needs just that little bit more to be properly adjusted...
