squealing.. distributor?

I've tried looking for anything about this already so i apologize if I missed a thread talking about this.
There's a squeal coming from the engine and it's driving me crazy. It's NOT the belt, idler, tensioner or alternator. It doesn't sound like a water pump so I've ruled that out too.
One person suggested power steering pump, but the squeal is unrelated to turning the wheels.
Another guy said it's the distributor. anyone have any experience with this? The noise only used to happen past 1500-2000 rpms, but now it's happening at idle too sometimes.
I'm leaning towards the distributor, because at higher speeds, past 120 km/h or so, the engine light starts flashing (misfire).
What do you guys think? I know it's hard to tell without hearing the actual noise, but the best I can do to describe it is some sort of mix between a squeaking/chirping almost, and somewhat the rythym of a hiccup
