Stuck in drive

I have a 1997 v6 4.3 4x4...The other day i went to put my truck in park and i was unable to get the lever past neutral. The truck has the push button floor shifter. With the brake pedal compressed i am unable to push the button on the shifter lever in, it is rock solid. Has anyone else had this happen before? Im not sure if i should be looking at the shift linkage or if there is something else that operates that button...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

There is a shift lock solenoid located inside the center console. But that shouldn't prohibit the movement of the shifter. Sounds like something in the shifter or in the cable has bound up.

thanks, you wouldnt happen to know what operates the push button on the shifter is it electronic or is there a cable? Im thinking it has to do something with the shifter...

I can't recall how all of that works. It's been a while since I have had one of those shifters apart. Best way to attack this is to get the console taken apart and have a look at it.
