tach doesnt work
i know its a stupid thing since the 4wd doesnt work and i think my intake gasket didnt seal but my tach wont work. i cant trace the wires so any help please!
|
On the right side of your distributer, underneath the cap, there is a plug for the cam(?)shaft position sensor. If that plug is loose or isn't connected, your tach won't work. I had that problem when I replaced my intake gaskets, I overlooked that plug because it's kind of hidden!

is it the one right on the bottom on the right of the distributor? if so its connected but still is not working. im at my wits end witht this truck! |
The plastic timing covers on these warp over time from the heat.
This can lead to the crank position sensor striking the crankshaft as it spins around. GM sells a spacer kit (shims) for the crank sensor when this happens. Typical first signs are the tach starts going crazy, means the crank position sensor is getting struck. Pull that out and check it real quick to rule it out. Look for signs the end is being struck by the crank. |
i bought the truck with out ever seeing it run so i dont know if the tach was going crazy.
