timing wire location and engine backfire

I need to set the timing on my 96 blazer 4.3 can you tell me where the factory wire is that I need to disconnect to set my timing? Also my engine is setting a cam sensor code and i already changed the cam sensor in the distributer and it didn't help .If my timing is off would the code appear again?Ant suggestions. Thanks Mark

RE: timing wire location and engine backfire

You cannot set the timing on that engine. How many miles are on the engine? I have seen the dist gear wear out on the dist and cause this problem. The dist can only be set in one position, so if you loosen the hold down bolt, you will not be able to turn it, thus not being able to set the timing. Check that gear out, I have seen them as sharp as a razor, and cause allot of problems. Korey
