torque converter indexing?

So I am replaceing the tranny in my 2000 blazer and on the new trans (used- 105k) I picked up it has a tag that says i need to "index the torque converter completely before installation". How is this done? The torque converter is only attached by 3 bolts so I really only see 3 different ways it can go back on in the trans... what am I missing here

RE: torque converter indexing?

I believe it is talking about making sure that the torque converter is fully engaged into the transmission input and pump drives.

Any specific way to do this. I assume all that is involved is a little wiggling, pushing and a few spins to get it on the shafts fully.

RE: torque converter indexing?

yes, tc indexing is seating the torque converter into the tranny pump. push and twist until it clunks and moves forward about 1".

make sure you put at least one quart of tranny fluid in the tc first, and smear some on teh input gasket. failure to do so could fry the new seal. I just posted how to filll the tranny. you the one asking?
