Tranny Replacement?

I have just purchased a 95 Blazer that has a tranny issue. Sometimes you can start it and put it in gear and it drives fine. Then you can be driving and stop then try to start again and it won't move. If you put it in park and turn the truck off then restart it and place in gear it will go. Then other times I can start it and place in any gear and it won't move at all just sounds like a grinding noise then the noise stops but still won't move. I have dropped the pan and the fluid is burnt bad! Almost to a brown color but I didn't see any large metal fragments. Should I replace filter and fluid or swap the tranny for another one?

i would change the fluid first by doing the poor mans flush and then i would replace the filter and see if the tranny works properly.....also check to see if any antifreeze is getting into the tranny lines from the radiator cooler.....

You can try, but don't go getting any hope about it. You better plan on rebuilding or replacing.
