Trans pan leak smell/look like coolant?
 

Hello, new to the forum... I noticed my blazer has been leaking since I haven't moved it for 4 days. I had already noticed about a week ago a minor leak from the trans pan so I was planing to replace it in the near future. Now its alot more. After a close inspection it appears to look like and smell like coolant? It's pink in color but a very light pink. Looks more like water than trans fluid to me...flushed the radiator about a week ago...any opinions? Suggestions?A simple gasket change???? 4.3 automatic 2wd 56,000 miles

the only place the tranny fluid should have access to coolant is in the radiator from the cooling lines. is your coolant looking contaminated at all?
you could have water in your tranny to but that seems pretty unlikely unless you have been driving in some very high water.

The coolant looks fine. Taking the pan off for better inspection this weekend hope its just trans fluid. Going to replace the gasket hope it fixes my problem...checked autozone they sell a trans filter with a rubber gasket included...first time doin this. Do I need to apply silicon to the pan gasket??? How about the torque specs?? Thanks a lot for any advice.

i have never used anything other then the gasket that comes with that kit.
its not a hard job...i think if you have a two door you need to drop the crossmember back out of the way.

search that and you can see what others have done.

i have a four door and have only had to drop the pan...its takes a couple of tries to get the angle but it drops out fine.
as far as torque i would just google it. i dont know what you have other then i am guessing an 03 (screen name) i dont want to give you bad numbers.

After spending more time looking at the suspicious leak it's def. coolant. But what's puzzling me is that its leaking right at the trans pan by the shift linkage. I tried looking for source of the leak and can't find any signs. Now I don't know what to do. Where to start....it's a 2wd 4dr. Any common fixes or suggestions?

get a pressure test down on the cooling system that sould bring any leaks to attention.

After doing Some More research here on the forum I see the intake manifold gasket is a common failure point and leads to coolant leaks both internal and external...the front of the intake looks dry but the rear does seem a little wet. It's really hard to fit my hand in there and even harder to see anything...any test/advice I try to see if indeed it is the intake gasket??? Thanks again for the help
