Transfer case removal
Hi guys,
After my first thread here I decided to bring my K5 to the mechanics to fix the transmission fluid leak. They replaced the pan gasket and kickdown cable which was snapped. However, it still pours everywhere I look and as the garage was an expensive encounter I now decided to prepare all the work myself and only let the experts do the gasket replacement on my tranny. Besides this my engine has a mechanical knock so I will take out the engine as well the give it an overhaul.
So, I have started today with the transfer case removal which goes quite well. I am now at the point to remove the last bolt and pull it out. But it gives me a question. Do I need to support the tranny in some way after the removal of the transfer case? I have the pan still under it but I am not sure if this will hold the weight.
Btw, is it normal that about 3 liters of tranny oil comes out when the transfer case is almost loose?
Best regards,
Alain

yeah its normal for trans fluid to fall out when the transfer case comes off. the trans itself is actually open in the back and it seals. after you take the case out you CAN leave the transmission just hang down but it just depends on the vehicle. you risk smashing the distributor against the firewall and cracking the cap. but i do it all the time at work for short times if i have to on some vehicles. just leave a jack under there
