Which Transmission Filter to use?

I didn't see any answers anywhere else, so I though I'd just post a quick question here.

I have an '04, 2-Door, 2WD Blazer, and I'm looking to replace the Transmission Filter on it. Looking the part number up, I discovered that there are two separate types of filters available: One for a shallow pan, and one for a deep pan. So my question is how to figure out which pan I have. Is there a measurable depth I can go by if I use a tape measure on the outside?

I would think that since ZR2 models are meant for rougher use, they would use the deeper pan. But since the Xtreme Blazers are lower than regulars, I didn't know if that meant that they were instead the ones that used the shallow pans for tighter ground clearance.

Thanks in advance!

RE: Which Transmission Filter to use?

If your pan has a flat bottom (no step in the back), then it is the shallow pan. If it has a step in the back, then it is the deep pan.

If you want some measurements (mounting surface to outside of pan if I remember correctly):
  • Shallow pan 2 1/4"
  • Deep pan 2 7/8"
