'96 S-10

Now my transmission has drip leaks. Diagnosed by a local mechanic (good, honest guy) as leaks coming from the neutral safety switch and servo and possibly from the pan gasket as well.

Hate to be a heretic on a Blazer-enthusiast forum, but I hate this vehicle. Only has 95k on it and it's been a huge money pit. Everything under the sun has failed on it in the past.

Anyway, it's our third car. Don't absolutely need it but would like to keep it as a winter utility vehicle what with the 4WD, etc. Live in the Rockies/high country. Lots of snow.

So my plan at the moment is to drive it till it croaks and put as little money into it as possible.

Question: Has anybody used the transmission fluid with the stop-leak additive and do you recommend it or no?

Anything with stop leak is a no, fix it the right way, or sell it to someone who will fix it and appreciate it.

Ok. If you put anything in it,stick a bottle of lucas trans slip in it. Nothing more. Its got pretty good reviews and results. You need to replace whats leaking and do it right,or enjoy spending MORE money in the long run buying fluid over and over. Do it right.

 

Stop leak products cause more problems than they fix. As a mechanic I wish somebody would ban the crap.

All the problems you describe pretty easy fixes for a diy type and most likely under $40 in parts.

 

x2 what has been said. lucas is great stuff, i swear by that stuff, after I have seen how it works in a few of my dads cars when he had them, as for the fix. its a real cheap fix, the hardest part is getting the trans pan down. not hard.

 

Lucas would fix the leak ? or am I just imagining things cause im tired. Just curious cause my converter seal likes to leak.

I think of it as an automatic trans fluid change With out me doing any thing... I leak about a quart a month tho.

I think I'll steer clear of any stop-leak and just keep an eye on it. I taped a white kitchen trash bag down to the garage floor under the transmission pan so I can get a rough measure of the quantity it's leaking. So far, it's just a few drops per day.

Yeah, Giovanni, you're right--I won't have to worry about flushing the trans anymore. Ha.

 

Lucas would not fix the leak, however, it could slow it down.
