Transmission help

alright, i've owned my 2002 4x4 LS 4 door for 6 months now. when i first bought it, i would have a problem that when i would brake, the speedometer would start to jump around. big jumps all over the place from 0 to 110. it would smooth back out when i accelerated. that problem went away, but it just started to come back a few weeks ago.

then, I was driving home from out of town yesterday. i had the cruise control on at about 75mph and out of nowhere the speedometer started jumping, the car started slowing down, but the RPM's shot all the way up to 5000. so it felt like none of the gears were catching. I pulled over and took a look at the speed sensor (on the drivers side of the transfer casing) and just kinda shook the wires and checked the connections. i also added about 2 quarts of trans fluid. i drove the next 130 miles home without incident.

I'm wondering if i'm right in thinking that it's just the sensor or the connection to that sensor. i'm just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem with the speedometer jumping like that and it not shifting properly.

thanks,
Zoppa
