Default transmission pump ?

I have a 94 s10 blazer and the transmission is making a weird noise , sounds like it is just behind the torque converter . So I'm thinking that it is the pump . Now I guess my question here is if the pump goes bad do you think It may have worn the clutch bands to or no . Last year I rebuilt this transmission at my old job with the help of my boss , but we did not do anything to the pump , is there a way to see if my pump is working propperly . Also for the past couple months it has been making this noise , but now its way worse almost sounds like the engine knocking and it makes a noise like engine noise coming through the speakers from behind the torque converter . I should also say that it does not make this niose all the time , I went out to try to get it in our shop and the niose was there and then there was like a click and the niose went away I put it in over drive and she started to go first then second , real tight shifts so I hit the gas and it took right off . But once it warms up It just goes away like its low on fliud . Anyway I'm taking it out and hopfully It will be something I can see wrong with in the pump .
