Transmission repair
I have just installed a used 4l60 in a 1997 s-10 blazer. Added fluid and started engine- now is will not engage in any gear and the shift indicater shows it is in reverse when in park. Indicator may be off for neutral switch but is there something else I need to do electronically? Or do I have a bum tranny? Opinions are much appreciated.

RE: Transmission repair
when you hooked the cable to teh tranny what gear was the shifter in and what gear was the tranny in. They both need to be in the same gear.

RE: Transmission repair
As Tim said, you need to have the shifter and the transmission in the same gear as you connect the two.
Also, the transmission fluid should be checked with the engine running. It is possible that you are quite low on fluid. |
RE: Transmission repair
Adjust the shifter cable properly, and recheck the fluid level, chances are that the tranny was dry and you didnt add enough fluid, the torque converter holds most of the fluid and if it was drained then you will have to add much more fluid than if just the pan was drained. Also if there isnt enough fluid in the tranny the torue converter will not work and you will not have any gears forward or reverse.Check the tranny fluid once it has warmed up and you have shifted through all of the gears.
