Transmission swap

I have a 1999 2 door s10 blazer and am looking for a new transmission. The automatic transmission I have now is running fine but I would like something a bit quicker and sportier. If anyone knows what transmission my car has now or possible swap ideas that would be very helpful. Thanks!

1999 Blazer has a 4L60e for an automatic trans. This is the only auto transmission that will work correctly with the PCM. If you want to change shifts, then discuss with a transmission shop what they can program or alter to fit your tastes. Right now the transmission uses adaptive learning and the PCM self-adjusts line pressure to meet a factory determined shift feel (tests and expects shifts to take a certain time when trans has a certain load on it). Transmission are fully integrated with the powertrain computer (PCM) these days (and have been for quite some time).

You might be interested that my 2004 Avalanche has a towing button on the gear shift. When it is depressed, a towing icon comes on and the transmission (also a 4L60e) acts completely differently with firm shifts and much higher shift points. It's all in the PCM programming/control of the transmission.
