Transmission Vent Tube Pinched Shut?
 

Good Evening -

I have a question about a 4L60E Transmission out of a 99 4x4 blazer. The code on it indicates it is a 98 transmission. We are putting in a 00 blazer. Supposedly the 99 blazer transmission has been rebuilt. It seems likely based on the markings on the case, however one thing we ran into is that the vent tube on top of the transmission has been pinched shut (seems to have been intentional).

My question is this: Is there any reason that would make sense why this was done? Our plan is to cut the end so it is open again and clamp the vacuum hose to it.

Just looking for any of you tranny experts out there to chime in.

Without the vent tube open, fluid will blow out the filler tube when it get's hot.

It's a 4wd, so it's even money whether it goes up the fill tube, or out the back seal into the transfer case.

However, you are correct, if the vent tube is plugged, the fluid will blow out of the transmission one way or another. The pressure will find a way out.
