Transmission Whine

New to Site. Have 99 Blazer with auto trans 61,000 miles on it. Mint condition always garaged. The last couple of months whiledriving the truck there seems to be a whine in all forward gears and reverse. No noise in Park or neutral. Noies increase when RPM's increase, seems less noticeable at higher speeds. Truck dosen't get used alot, sits in garage. Fluid level is good, looks fairly clean not burnt. Any suggestions or is this a normal occurence after 60,000 miles. Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the site! Get some pics up of your blazer, it sounds pretty nice! :)

As for your problem, how are you sure it's the tranny? Have you taken any steps to eliminate other sources in the wheels?

I would give the hunch that theres sumtin wrong with the torque conv.. even tho its garaged means nuttin.. a tranny can go even when babied... or not from usage..

Thanks for the suggestions. The noise is there when the truck is not moving so that eliminates wheel movement causing the whine. I was able to get some info from GM and one of their SIB's addressed torque converter whine and how to distinguish the difference between that and other symptoms, but did not really say what causes the whine. Maybe I am to anal retentive! HaHa. Any other input would be helpfull. Getting snow here in CT. Great site

If it's the transmission whining.

I think my front pump is going because it started whining a few weeks ago. It whines in all gears, even park and neutral. It doesn't do it immediately at start up after its been sitting for a few hours, but 5-10 minutes into a trip, its there. It also slips under harder acceleration in the 1-2 shift when its not warmed up. Once its warmed up, it doesn't slip. Can this also be caused by a bad pump? The tranny fluid looks/smells ok. I plan on selling the truck within 4-5 months (3000-4000 miles) - should I gamble on this one and not fix it? I don't have the resources to do it myself - what is this going to cost in parts and labor at a reputable shop?
