I used to have a 2000 chevy s10 xtreme 4.3 auto which now belongs to my dad. I never had this problem, but he has been having it for the past year and no one knows whats going on. We go out and start the truck, put it in drive and it starts rolling. Hit the gas and it may go 10 mph up the street, but if you want to go faster forget it. You can floor it and it wont go anywhere. When we go to pull out we have to wait until there are absolutely no cars coming and then as we go up the road the truck comes back to life with all of its power. Does anyone know what this could be? BTW if we park it and start it right back up within minutes it wont do it but if it sits for awhile or overnight it loses its ***** again until it gets rolling for a little bit.

have you checked the tranny fluid? if its low you may not get the power right away...just a thought.

hmm i ll have to check that. I noticed that if we let it warm up really good for a maybe 3 or 5 minutes its ok but if we start it and let it warm up for 30 sec or a minute like a normal car it hesitates, bucks, back fires etc. Its almost like a choke pull-off getting caught up in an old carbed vehicle. I know this engine doesnt have a choke pull off because there is no carb, but thats the best way i can describe how it feels

i bet 10 cents its the fuel pump. get a fuel pressure gauge and test it. needs to be 60 psi at key on and not drop below 55.

It does seem like it could be fuel pump but the fuel pump failed a few months ago and we had a brand new one put in and it didnt fix the issue -_- I ll still try to check the fuel pressure anyway to be sure

If you didnt replace it with AC Delco or Delphi chances are the pump didnt work out of the box
