transfer case

i have a 74 chevy blazer k5, 350 motor and tranny! changing from 203 to a 205, any tips on removal and installation? thanks

Have a few friends handy. Those T-cases are HEAVY!

You will either need to do a SYE (slip yoke eliminator) conversion or get a different rear driveshaft.

And the 205 needs to come out from behind a TH350 for it to be a direct bolt in swap. Also needs to have the adapter.

transfer case

i bought a 205, they said it came out of a 74 chevy truck, i have the blazer, the 203 is still in truck! trying to figure out where the bolts are to take 203 out! i've taken out both drive shafts, t case bolts to the cross member, cross member bolts! taken some bolts out between t case and tranny( thought that would be it!) but it is still bolted together! tried lowering it! but it just hang here! looks like to me 203 comes out in two pieces? anyway a little lost? not sure if i'm going in the wrong direction? thx james

It will come out in one piece. There are four bolts holding the t-case to the back of the transmission, two bolts that hold the transfer case to the crossmember. And two bolts on the passenger side holding the t-case as well. That should be it (without going outside and looking at my '74...

t case

the two bolts on passenger side? didnt see any? they might not have been any bolted in there! the t case when i lower it, the tranny and engine tilt down ward! looks like to me, that the t case is still bolted to tranny! does the t case bolt to the tranny? but looks like i can't get to those bolts unless i take t case apart! what supports tranny after t case is out? does it just hang there?

Sorry, yes, you have to unbolt the mount (adapter) from the front of the transfer case. There are 6 or so bolts pointing directly towards the back of the truck. The transfer case can then be moved rearward and dropped. My NP203 also has a bracket bolted to the passenger side with 2 large bolts that runs up to the frame.

t case

yea i was wondering how it works, i took 4 bolts out from front of transfer case(bolts pointing toward rear) maybe i missed 1 or 2? so the adapter(mount) looks like the 205 has its own mount? so i wont be using 203 mount? thanks

Also you're probably going to have to change your output shaft. Unless the adapter is as thin as that 203 adapter. I have a 203 205 and 208 adapter hangin on my wall and they are all different thicknesses

If the NP205 came from behind a TH350, it should bolt up. The driveshafts are a different story. The front should be the same length, but the rear output from the NP205 is a slip yoke. The NP203 has a fixed flange and a telescoping driveshaft.
